Big kudos to the indepth, on the spot, largely unbiased coverage I’ve been seeing from CP24 and CTV. Although I have to say I was disappointed in Ann Rohmer’s reporting which seemed to over-sympathize with authories. And a big thumbs down to CBC News Network and CBC Radio 1: Where in the world were you??

Kudos to CP24 and CTV for G20 Coverage. A big thumbs down to CBC – where were you??
Sunday, June 27th, 2010G20 Toronto is lasting and irreparable damage to Toronto and Police Reputation
Sunday, June 27th, 2010I’ve been watching the G20 Toronto coverage on CP24 and CBC News Network since yesterday and this is a no-win situation for Toronto, its police, for Ontario, for Canada, and for Harper.
The Toronto and Ontario Police, who will be most closely identified with the G20 because of the location, will suffer lasting and irreparable damage to their reputation because of their actions during the summit.
The distrust and disrespect engendered towards Toronto and its police force by their actions of this summit weekend are very unfortunate.
I certainly hope this comes up in the commons by MPs and MPPs and I hope the ruling parties get roasted for it.
Pride Toronto – Why Christians can not support it.
Monday, June 21st, 2010Pride Week Toronto is an annual event in Toronto (Ontario, Canada) celebrating the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community in the Greater Toronto Area. Over the past decade, this event has become huge. It is one of the largest such events in the world. More and more, it is becoming very accepted, very common-place, and has become an event which people of all groups, even if they don’t identify with the Pride groups, will go to celebrate at events. The celebration, however, can not be accepted by a Christian for one very simple reason: When all is said and done, Pride Toronto is an event celebrating sin.
Speaking to a Christian about Pride Toronto, it would be just as absurd to ask him if he’ll be going down to the Stealing Parade or the Adultery Parade or the Murdering Parade or the Idolatry Parade. Remember, it’s not the severity of the action, it’s that the action is an affront to the Christian God. It would be ridiculous, in the highest degree, to support the celebration of sin.
Why can’t a Christian support it?
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Lev 18:22)
For some other reading on the topic, see the wikipedia article on “The Bible and homosexuality“.
The problem today is that the majority of people now accept the Pride Toronto event as not just “healthy” for that community but also as an event in which they can join in, celebrate and participate in. It is as if the event has lost all sense of immorality about it which, no doubt, it has with non-Christians as they don’t have any absolute moral ruleset to argue against it.
I hope it’s clear why a Christian can not support the Pride event. It is as simple and clear as if that Christian were to be in support of stealing or murdering or any other act that the majority still recognize as immoral.

PMO Issues The Order: Canadian DMCA Bill Within Six Weeks
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010PMO Issues The Order: Canadian DMCA Bill Within Six Weeks
Months of public debate over the future of Canadian copyright law were quietly decided earlier this week, when sources say the Prime Minister’s Office reached a verdict over the direction of the next copyright bill. The PMO was forced to make the call after Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore and Industry Minister Tony Clement were unable to reach consensus on the broad framework of a new bill. As I reported last week, Moore has argued for a virtual repeat of Bill C-61, with strong digital locks provisions similar to those found in the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act and a rejection of a flexible fair dealing approach. Consistent with earlier comments on the need for a forward-looking, flexible approach, Clement argued for changes from C-61.

Harper is not listening!
Harper is using dictatorship tactics to strong-arm in American DMCA style copyright legislation. Don’t let him get away with it!
A quick google for “dmca controversy” will get you all you need to know about why the American DMCA is bad for everyone involved.
Hoover Dam Dwarfed by Beavers
Wednesday, May 5th, 2010Check out this article about a Northern Alberta, Canada, group of beavers that have created their own dam twice as wide as the Hoover Dam and visible from space:

All I can think of is how awesome God is to create wildlife that can outdo our best technology in this day and age.
CAN vs SVK 18-0: Do you feel like a (wo)man now?
Sunday, February 14th, 2010Sigh. My apologies for turning on my broken record player but it looks like I have to shine an uncomfortable light yet again on the idiocies of competition.
Canada’s women hockey team beat Slovakia 18-0. At least that’s nothing compared to Slovakia’s 2008 blowout of Bulgaria 82-0. You heard me. That’s just stupid.
“It’s not a game you want to play in, and you don’t take a lot of pride in a score like that,” Hefford said. “But it’s the Olympic ideals. We train for four years, and we’ll hopefully play five games in this tournament. So, to take one night off, that’s unfair to us.”
I’m embarrassed by that statement. Olympic ideals? Wow. Just wow. And this “unfair to us” business? Or point differentials? Utterly lacking in regard for your fellow human being.
Trust me, I’ve played on losing teams all my life. I’ve also played on a few occassions on championship teams. In hockey, ten goals is about the limit. There’s something about double digits that reeks of disrespecting your opponent.
Especially in a sport where you’re trying to help other teams you’re doing more harm than good with a hopeless game. At least give them their dignity by winning your game in a modest fashion and letting it go.
But, no, somehow, somewhere, this idea that blowouts are a necessary evil has gotten us actually convinced. Where did we learn this from? That our sports organizations are teaching young people these insane ideals is atrocious. Leaders who do not respect their pupils lose the respect of their pupils and no longer act as leaders. They are simply viewed as pompous asses.
And, hey, if you don’t like hearing it from me, Don Cherry has made similar comments about making the other team look bad. You just don’t do it. It’ll come back to haunt you.
Missile Launch in Newfoundland
Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010Apparently there were a number of missiles flying around in Newfoundland. Odd.
CAN vs LAT 16-0: Do you feel like a man now?
Sunday, December 27th, 2009Canada shut out Latvia 16 to nothing.
Tell me, does that make you feel good, Team Canada? Are you proud of yourself?
I’m a die-hard Canuck. Hearing about a 16-0 game just makes me feel embarrassed to be citizens of the same country as Team Canada.
It doesn’t help our team: the game was a gift. It doesn’t help their team, they’re so discouraged nothing they could have learned will stick.
And it certainly isn’t good for our kids on the Canadian team to have a coach and organization that wouldn’t take control and tell the team to “just have fun” as it becomes clear it’s going to become a blowout. A good coach will realize this early and won’t let a game get far past 10 goals. I’ve done this as a player on one of my teams in the past, just encouraging my guys to go easy and have some fun.
Somebody give Canada an unsportman-like penalty.
Update: Yes, I’m aware goals will determine spots in the event of a tie. I don’t buy that excuse when it’s sportsmanship we’re talking about.
National Security: An Excuse That Has No Place In A Democracy
Friday, September 25th, 2009If the government wants to get out of something, they need only utter “national security” and all concerns are nullified.
This excuse is abhorrent and has no place in a democracy.
Authorities should be demanding better explanations. If a source is at risk of exposure, fine, say that. If it’s another case, say that.
If you can’t come up with anything more palatable than “national security” then it’s a clear sign you have no ground to stand on.
Shame on you people who use the excuse of “national security”. You are not worthy of the democracy you enjoy.
Give the Government of Canada a Piece of Your Mind on Copyright Reform
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009The Canadian government has been on the warpath of copyright reform for some years now and every time they get it wrong.
Apparently they still don’t get it.
So give them a piece of your mind.
Fortunately, people like Michael Geist have been in your corner through this whole ordeal. Check out his website to keep up-to-date on this and other issues that affect your rights.
